The highest grossing French film was called Bienvenue Chez Les Ch’tis (translated to Welcome To The Sticks) made in 2008 which sold 20,489,303 tickets in total. It was directed by Dany Boon and was about a French postman who receives a transfer and has to move with his family to the south of France. It grossed nearly €200 million in the box office in France alone.
An Italian film called Quo Vado (January 2016) received €65.3 million in Italy becoming the highest grossing film. This film was directed by Gennaro Nunziante. It is about a man who has a good life in a small town but is forced to cut down on bureaucracy when he is forced to accept worsening conditions by the government. He refuses to accept redundancy when his department is threatened.
